Course Descriptions

THURSDAY

11:00am – ORIENTATION
“Ask Alan Anything about Acting”. Former CESD talent agent Alan Nusbaum offers inside tips on getting the best talent agent and/or manager, how to find paying auditions, plus much more.

2:00 pm – IMPROVISATION TECHNIQUE
The act of creating without planning. Learn the art of spontaneous performance without specific or scripted preparation. A great method to develop writing skills, and feel free and confident in auditions.

4:15 pm – VOICE AND BREATHWORK
Let us free the natural voice, from obstacles that block full expression. Complete emotional connection shaped by, but not controlled by, the intellect. A monologue of your choice will be analyzed, broken down, and built back up as you explore through truth, development of character, and behavior.

7:30 pm – MAKING MONEY IN VOICE-OVERS
How to make money as a voiceover actor and work anywhere in the world.


FRIDAY

11:00am – ACTORS DIAGNOSTIC
Actors will be asked to make an honest assessment of their acting strengths and weaknesses, whether vocal, physical or emotional and reveal their inhibitions along w/their most passionate aspirations as artists. This exploration will lead to material being assigned, designed to challenge them in those specific areas, and by working directly on their “issues”, turn their liabilities into assets, or at least go a long way toward removing the fear or lack of confidence, overcoming these obstacles, and breaking through to expand their skill set, improve their technique and grow in their craft.

2:00pm – TV COMMERCIAL SCREENTEST 
Commercial Casting Director Vicki Goggin will be offering tips and feedback as you shoot your TV commercial screentest for the talent agents and managers.

7:30pm – TALENT AGENT & MANAGER FEEDBACK
Talent Agent & Manager feedback via video playback on studio monitors.


SATURDAY

11:00 am – INTRODUCTION TO MEISNER
Get out of your head such that you, the actor, behave instinctively to the surrounding environment. Let the words come second to the underlying emotion and let there be a greater focus on the other actor as opposed to one’s internal thoughts or feelings associated with the character.

2:00pm – FILM AUDITION SCREENTEST
Film Casting Director Dean Fronk will be working on film auditions for which he will offer direction and feedback. Each actor will be shot on-camera for talent agent and manager feedback.

7:30 pm – FILM TALENT AGENTS AND MANAGERS PANEL
Talent Agents and Managers are chosen by casting directors on their experience, success in developing talent and the individual ambition to see the actors get in the audition room.


SUNDAY

9:30am – TV AUDITION SCREENTEST
9x EMMY® Award-winning TV Network casting director will be working with TV audition scenes. He will be offering constructive criticism and direction to get great results for your on-camera test. Each actor will be shot on-camera for Talent Agent and Manager feedback.

1:30pm – TV TALENT AGENTS AND MANAGERS PANEL
Talent Agents and Managers that work specifically in the TV industry are selected by casting directors for their experience, success in developing new talent and the individual ambition to see the actors get in the audition room and book the job.


*Classes are led by esteemed Faculty, and prominent Casting Directors, Talent Agents and Managers.

Frequently Asked Questions

As An International Actor, Do I Need A Visa To Attend?
 

For our 4-day immersion course, a tourist visa is all you will need for most countries. TVI has an in-house immigration advisor, who is an expert on Immigration and a former immigration attorney.

How Should I Dress?
 

The dress code is professional, casual, and comfortable. No beachwear, tank tops, or shorts for men.

Do You Provide Housing Accommodations?
 

TVI Actors Studio suggests housing options in the Los Angeles suburb of Sherman Oaks (zip code 91423) and Studio City (91604) via Airbnb for the most affordable housing choices. Our TVI housing coordinator can assist you with your accommodations.

Do You Provide Transportation?

Uber and Lyft rideshare services in Los Angeles are the most economical and consistent way to get around. We highly suggest Lyft and Uber, especially for your nights out on the town. Renting from a car company is also convenient.

How Long Is The Day?

The days will vary, but you can expect 10 to 12 hour days.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made 30 days prior to start date, of course, must be made via email for a full TVI Actors Studio 4-Day course credit. Credit can be applied toward future 4– Day courses within 12 months of original course date. A $250 transfer fee will be charged.

Cancellations made 2-4 weeks prior to start date, of course, will be partially credited (50% of course tuition) Credit can be applied toward a future 4 – Day course within 12 months of the original course date. A $250 transfer fee will be charged.

Cancellations made less than 2 weeks prior to the start date will not be eligible for credit or refund.

There are no cash refunds for TVI Actors Studio. Course credit is available for future 4-day courses within 12 months of the original course date.
