The Curriculum
The Summer Program Curriculum has four components:
Professional
Orientation exposes students to the day-to-day business of the
entertainment industry using studio tours, visits to sets, casting offices
and agencies as a valuable teaching tool that prepares an actor for
the transition from the university training ground to the professional
world.
The Foundation Classes are designed to refine
the students' mastery of character development, emotional truth in imaginary
circumstances, vocal and physical commitment to dramatic material, and
text analysis. The Foundation Classes are taught by both industry professionals
from Los Angeles and New York and visiting guest faculty members from
prominent university and college theatre programs across the country.
The
Core Workshops are taught exclusively
by industry professionals, from Hollywood and Broadway directors, to
television and film producers, commercial and theatrical casting directors
and talent agents from both coasts. The Core Workshops focus on applying
acting techniques to the specific demands of auditioning for such diverse
media as voice-overs, on-camera commercials, soap operas, sitcoms, primetime
television drama and feature film roles. In addition to sharpening acting
and auditioning skills, the Core Workshops provide rare insight into
the entire casting process, from first audition to network and studio
screen test.
Finally,
the Evening Forums provide an opportunity
for students to learn various aspects of the business such as networking,
marketing and promoting yourself as an actor, and gain an insider's
view of the entertainment industry seen from the perspective of producers,
writers, actors, directors and studio and network executives. The Evening
Forum gives students a context within which to assess their work, their
potential and their goals of becoming a working actor.
